out with the old…

today’s closetcast: refreshed

So a few days ago I did a major closet cleanout. It feels nice to be honest with what I will actually wear and what I won’t. No sense holding on to things that just take up the limited space in my closet. I picked up this headband at Anthropologie this past weekend and have been wearing it non-stop. It’s a fun way to accessorize without jewelry.

The boots are a pair of Topshop Chelsea boots. So versatile and they sort of toughen up any outfit… I think they are perfect with a mini-skirt, like pictured here.

Sunshine Day

today’s closetcast: light and flirty

Thought this fun and flirty take on a shirtdress might brighten up a rather slow week – and relatively overcast morning. The light screenprint on the fabric is fun and playful, and the lightweight fabric is perfect for a summer day. I believe the dress is sold out now, it was featured in Lucky magazine’s May issue (not totally positive which month), and poof! it was gone.

Tried my hand at a side fishtail braid and surprisingly it came out looking halfway decent. Still trying to figure out what to do with my bangs… to cut or not to cut? Either way, this middle period is driving me mad.

Large-faced watches are a favorite of mine and I’ve had this mens Nixon watch for years. The huge clean face sold me. I’m seriously vying for a gold one now – have for months – just need to take the plunge.

grey morning

today’s closetcast: airy and voluminous

Woke up to an overcast morning but the weather report telling me that it will be a warm one today. Living by the beach has spoiled me with cool coastal breezes, so when I venture into the valley I tend to overheat. This dress is perfect for the warmer weather with its lightweight fabric and voluminous shape. It tends to make me look a little tent-like, but I don’t mind. On its own the dress is a little too summery, so I just threw up a white button down that I tucked under the paperbag style waistband of the dress.

The bracelets are a funky mix of bangles and the tangled mess is actually a necklace that I just wrapped around my wrist five or six times. The shoes are fun wedges I got on sale at Urban Outfitters for practically nothing. I thought they sort of toughened up the overall soft, gray look.

dress: topshop, shirt: e-hyphen world gallery (Japan), shoes: DV by Dolce Vita (sold out, but check out the selection of Dolce Vita on Solestruck), bracelets: vintage, forever 21 necklace, tiffany&co bracelet

today’s closetcast: shy

Feeling a little camera shy today hence a couple “faceless” photos. As I was getting dressed this morning I realized just how much of my everyday favorites are in rather neutral hues. I am now on a quest for some bright pieces to add a little something to my versatile staples.

easy sunday

today’s closetcast: free and mellow

I was rushing out the door this morning to head to a bridal shower with friends and took a quick batch of photos of my super simple look for this lazy Sunday. I love these J. Crew shorts that I picked up on sale. The print is so vibrant and the fit is perfect. The sweater is a versatile piece that I picked up while in Japan last summer. Super soft and slouchy, the sweater is great for those sunny days that are a touch chillier than they seem.
